Beautiful Diffuse Richardson Thunderegg

To me, this is an amazing stone. That agate has a very haunting quality that the image hardly does justice to. It seems - the only word I can think of is uncertain. When you look at it from various angles, you are never quite sure which way it's features are going - what is descending into the agate and what is just flat on the surface. The curious speckled texture like squid skin that slides gradually down into the depths adds to that. It is a curious phenomenon. Another curious phenomenon is that it was priced really quite cheaply. The seller explained to me that this was because the cut had gone across the stone and not through the leveling lines. It seems strange to me to 'mark down' a thunderegg like that, especially when it is as fine as this one. But I guess if you like leveling lines then that is what you want! I think this is a prince among Richardsons (or some relatively high-up official). Or is that just me and my sometimes idiosyncratic tastes? Maybe we should cut more thundereggs 'the wrong way' and get a new perspective on them. After all - the one thing we are not short of in this world is Richardsons with leveling lines. But I aint complaining about getting a stone cheap! That's the thunderegg world. Every so often it deals you a real favour and has you scratching your head a little as well! This is a gorgeous stone and I am glad I added it to my collection.
